Cooking next to a legend, Gordan Ramsey!
A Story of Food, Family, and Finding My Voice
When I stepped onto the set of Next Level Chef on FOX, I carried more than ingredients with me.
Next Level Chef Season Five Molé Mama Introduction
I carried my mother.
My abuelita.
And every story that ever lived in our kitchen.
A Journey That Started at Home
I didn’t grow up in a professional kitchen.
I grew up standing beside my mother.
She taught me how to cook the recipes her mother taught her. Every dish came with a story, and every story became a way for me to know my abuelita, the woman I never had the chance to meet.
In our kitchen, food was never just about eating.
It was how we remembered.
How we honored.
How we kept our loved ones close.
So when I stepped into the Next Level Chef kitchen, I wasn’t just representing myself.
I was carrying generations with me.
The Pressure, the Pace, and the Unexpected Growth
Nothing can truly prepare you for the intensity of a show like Next Level Chef.
The pace is fast.
The pressure is real.
And every second counts.
You don’t have time to overthink. You have to trust yourself, your instincts, and everything you’ve learned.
And in those moments, I realized something that changed me.
I belonged there.
Not because I had formal training.
But because I had something just as powerful.
I had my story.
I had my roots.
I had the recipes passed down through generations of women in my family.
The Chaos Behind the Scenes
There’s also a side of Next Level Chef that you don’t fully understand until you’re standing there.
The platform drops.
The clock starts.
And suddenly it feels like you’re in the middle of a pack of wild animals trying to grab what you need before it disappears.
And somehow, I found myself standing next to a former NFL player whose reach was practically longer than I am tall.
Let’s just say… I had to move fast.
A Little Spice and a Lot of Fun
Chef Ramsey rocking pink hair!
At one point, there was a conversation about spice levels that made me laugh.
I remember thinking, if the dish was spicy enough to turn Gordon Ramsay’s hair pink… honestly, I think he’d look great. We could have been twins.
Even in the intensity of the competition, those moments of humor stayed with me.
Cooking With Heart in a Competitive Kitchen
As the founder of Molé Mama, I have always believed that food is about connection.
Even in a competitive environment, that never changed for me.
Every dish I created came from a place of memory, love, and heritage. I wasn’t just cooking to impress. I was cooking to honor where I came from.
To bring my culture into that space.
To share a piece of my family.
To show that home cooking, passed down through generations, belongs on any stage.
The Dish I Still Think About
I’ll be honest. I lost my round because of undercooked chicken.
And if I told you I haven’t thought about that dish again… I’d be lying.
I’ve had countless moments, even dreams, where I replay it in my mind, wondering how else I could have prepared it, what I could have done differently.
But that’s also part of the journey.
Because growth doesn’t come from perfection.
It comes from reflection.
A Moment I Will Never Forget
There were moments in that kitchen where time seemed to stand still.
Moments where I could feel my mother beside me.
Moments where I thought about my abuelita and the journey that brought her family here.
And in those moments, I wasn’t just competing.
I was connected.
Connected to something deeper than the challenge in front of me.
More Than a Competition
Being on Next Level Chef was not just about cooking.
It was about growth.
It was about stepping into my voice.
It was about trusting that my story mattered.
For so long, I saw myself as someone who simply loved to cook.
Now I see something more.
I am a storyteller.
A keeper of traditions.
A woman carrying forward the legacy of the women who came before me.
What I Carry With Me Now
I left this experience with so much gratitude.
Gratitude for the opportunity.
Gratitude for the growth.
Gratitude for the reminder that my voice, my story, and my food have a place.
And most of all, gratitude for my mother, my abuelita, and my tias.
Because no matter where I go, or what kitchen I step into next…
They are always with me.
A Message From My Kitchen to Yours
If there is one thing I hope you take from my journey, it is this:
Your story matters.
Your traditions matter.
The way you learned to cook matters.
Whether you are cooking for your family, your friends, or just for yourself, you are carrying something meaningful forward.
And that is always enough.
